Hereford, old Wye Bridge and Cathedral
The ancient bridge over the Wye was built around 1490, and is the oldest bridge on the river. The cathedral is thought to have been founded in the Dark Ages, though what we see today was begun in the 1100’s. In 1786, on Easter Monday, disaster struck when the west tower and west front collapsed. It was rebuilt with the tower that we see today. In 1996 a new addition was made, with a museum to house the famous Chained Library and 13th century Mappa Mundi, one of the oldest surviving maps of the world.
