Fallow Deer
Both fallow and roe deer are relatively common in the Wye Valley’s woodlands. Fallow deer are the most common, and have increased to such an extent that they have a detrimental effect on the biodiversity of the area as they graze on young trees and ground flora. The Wye Valley AONB unit coordinates annual deer surveys to monitor their impact in the ravine woodlands of the Lower Wye Valley and the Woolhope Dome areas.
