Builth Wells Castle

The earthwork remains of a once-major castle built by the Norman Braose family in 1093 and thereafter the subject of a tit-for-tat battle between English and Welsh. Destroyed by Lord Rhys in 1168, scene of a treacherous murder in 1170, seized by King John, beseiged by Prince Llewelyn, destroyed again (twice), rebuilt again - this time by Edward I - and then beseiged again. Finally dismantled after a fire destroyed most of the town.Opening Times: Throughout the year
